Shortly after Linkin Park staged a touching memorial concert at the Hollywood Bowl in late October to vocalist Chester Bennington (who died on July 20), the remaining members of the band announced a special new live album. One More Light Live, released today, features live recordings from the handful of world tour dates Linkin Park performed in promotion of their 2017 album One More Light — the final few shows Bennington performed before his death.
For Linkin Park’s global fan base, this is a truly special collection of recordings from the rest of the band — Mike Shinoda, Rob Bourdon, Brad Delson, DJ Joe Hahn and Dave Farrell. Bennington’s death ripped a hole in the band, who had a huge world tour in the works. Both band and fans have had a hard time dealing with his unexpected passing as the focal point in one of the world’s biggest musical acts, and one of the most powerful vocalists of the past 20 years or so.
With that emotional context surrounding this release, One More Light is just as warm a tribute to Bennington as the Hollywood Bowl concert was. Finding the band at its best, the live set features 16 songs, including several choice cuts from One More Light, which was a nuanced, affecting collection of songs featuring some of Bennington’s most personal lyrics (which all take on an added level of meaning in light of what happened).
