Tonight Alive Premiere Powerful New Video for ‘Crack My Heart,’ from Upcoming Album ‘Underworld’

Australian pop/punk/rock band Tonight Alive have made waves around the world with their first three studio albums, and the fourth is just around the corner.

On January 12, Underworld will be released via Hopeless Records, and looks to be a tremendously personal affair for lead singer Jenna McDougall:

“The album is called Underworld and I named it that because it reflects the ugly parts of me that I wasn’t ready to see until now,” she said of her band’s follow-up to 2016’s Limitless. The themes explored on the new record cover a variety of issues close to her heart, such as her battle with an eating disorder, societal pressures and more.

It’s all expressed succinctly in Tonight Alive’s new video for “Crack My Heart,” which premiered earlier this week and can be seen/heard below:

McDougall explained the symbolism of the video:

“The concept of cracking the heart is to allow the precious, vulnerable self to come through and be free. The painful, yet liberating experience involves the emotional and energetic decalcification of the hardened heart. The lyrics follow my conversation with a ‘winged man’, a conscious figure, who offers space and safety to do my healing with. In my experience, when you are seen as your authentic self by another, you come to recognise your reflection more accurately and lovingly. Crack My Heart is a tribute to the way that love from the divine masculine elevates and holds space for the divine feminine to flourish.”

Here’s a video for another new song called “Temple”:
