On December 16, a fancy new 40th anniversary reissue of Rush‘s landmark album 2112 will be released.

Needless to say, the Canadian prog-rock heroes have quite a package in the works for fans. Live, rare and previously unreleased material will accompany the remastered set, as well as reinterpretations of the album’s classic tracks from the likes of Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins, Billy Talent, Alice in Chains and more.

Some insight about 2112‘s legacy:

The epic 2112 album which guitarist Alex Lifeson described as “the first record where we sounded like Rush,” is widely regarded as a crucial landmark in Rush’s body of work. Although it was the band’s fourth album, it’s generally considered to be the one on which the band’s epic sound and ambitious conceptual approach blossomed. Resisting record-company pressure to focus on shorter, more radio-friendly songs, the band stuck to its guns and constructed the album’s seminal seven-part, 20-minute title piece, a conceptual suite set in a dystopian future.

You may recall that Grohl, Hawkins and producer/musician Nick Raskulinecz helped induct Rush to the Rock and Roll Hall of FAme in 2013 with a faithful take on Overture:

So it’s perfect, then, for them to also release a recorded version of the cover with the new 40th anniversary set.

Here’s the full track listing and information about the new reissue, shared via Rush’s official site:
