Jerry Yester has been removed from Lovin’ Spoonful after the guitarist was arrested on charges of child pornography, it was reported earlier this week by the Oklahoman.
The rest of the band, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thanks to a career buoyed by hits such as “Summer in the City” and “Do You Believe in Magic,” issued an official statement (via Buddy Rich Attractions) about some upcoming concert cancellations and their reaction to the news regarding the 74-year-old Yester, who joined the group in 1968:
“We are as numbed and shocked as the public is about these serious charges that have been brought against guitarist Jerry Yester whom has been replaced and is no longer a member of our group. We have a longstanding relationship with Buddy Lee Attractions and we will continue to share our music on the road. We do not want to disappoint our loyal fans. Out of the respect for those affected by these circumstances, we are cancelling a couple of performances and will resume our tour on October 27.”

As the Arkansas Attorney General’s office detailed in its report, Yester was arrested by the Cyber Crimes Unit:
Special agents in the Attorney General’s office began investigating Yester after agents determined that someone using a computer at Yester’s address downloaded sexually explicit material involving children. The investigative file will be turned over to 14th Judicial District Prosecutor David Ethredge.
