Sir Paul McCartney served as the musical guest for Saturday Night Live‘s Christmas episode tonight – and in grand McCartney fashion, it was an all-around classy affair (again involving Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear).

As a preface, here’s the show’s opening segment, which was a performance of Silent Night from the Manhattan Children’s Choir (in honor of the victims of the horrible massacre in Newtown, Connecticut yesterday):

Below, watch clips of Paul’s three performances (thanks as always to the Audio Perv)- the first, with Joe Walsh on the song Valentine:

With Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear on the new song Cut Me Some Slack:

And with his own band (accompanied by the Manhattan Children’s Chorus) on Wonderful Christmastime:

Kudos to NBC on the touching opening – that was classy.
