The Beach Boys revealed that their new album is nearing completion, and (barring any last-minute delays) will be released on June 5th.
Watch the promo video below to hear part of the first single, That’s Why God Made the Radio, as well as some of the band members discussing the song, the album, & their reunion:
Speaking with Billboard, Bruce Johnston said that he believes the band’s upcoming world tour will be a special one-time thing, as he doesn’t think Brian Wilson will be able or willing to tour long-term.
Johnston also offered up the following in terms of an album preview. He says the new record:
“…reminds me of our ‘Sunflower’ album, which is probably one of our least-selling albums, and some of the songs there are stunning. This album has elements, kind of, of everything. And we don’t have EMI, Capitol, acting like they did when I joined the band just so paranoid — ‘We gotta have hits! We gotta have hits! Come on, is that a hit?!,’ just coming to the sessions and torturing you. It wasn’t like that this time. They’ve listened to the stuff and go, ‘Wow, that’s pretty nice.’”
