Remember when Karen O. of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs teamed up with Nine Inch Nails’ mastermind Trent Reznor for a weird cover of Immigrant Song?

If you thought THAT was weird, try this on for size. For his upcoming studio album Born Villain, Marilyn Manson joined up with none other than Johnny Depp for what should be a delightfully twisted cover of Carly Simon’s You’re So Vain.

According to NME, Depp plays guitar and drums on the track, while Manson (or Brian Warner, if you prefer) will be on the mic.

For some context, Manson told MTV UK that

“We did a cover version together of a song which we thought was ironic for each other”

Further, Depp’s son is apparently involved on the track as well:

“Johnny’s son Jack – whose birthday I’m gonna be performing at – was in the room and he actually played on the song too. It’s pretty cool.”

If this all sounds head-scratchingly bizarre, it is, but it does actually make sense: Warner and Depp have been friends ever since the musician/icon appeared as an extra on Depp’s show 21 Jump Street over twenty years ago, and they already collaborated once, on a remix of Manson’s song The Nobodies, from Depp’s 2001 film From Hell. Here’s that track:

Born Villain is expected to be out on April 30th.
