Well, Lana Del Rey new video is freshly out – perhaps the only thing fresh about the Lana Del Rey phenomenon. For the people who love her it’s exactly what they wanted, and for people who can’t stand her, it’s exactly what they hate about her.

What is happening? Why is this semi-musical figure so polarizing?

#1 – Her top lip is fake, and probably some other stuff, too.
#2 – Her real name is Lizzie Grant and her career was a bust until she changed her name to something that sounds really retro-cool.
#3 Her father is Rob Grant – a rich internet huckster who bankrolled her career.

Hey – countless musical stars have had the same triumvirate listed above, and almost all have sold some part of their soul to be famous. So what is it, really. Envy? Ordinary inevitable fame-backlash?

Here’s one possibility: perhaps for people who have ears, young and old, her music is trite and unoriginal and her talent is marginal.

Or, maybe when people feel they’ve been sold something fake – like a knock-off Coach bag, or a Tag Heuer watch with a hairball behind the face, they get really pissed off.

Ah gentle readers, we’ll let you decide for yourselves…

At the risk of continuing to unnecessarily fuel Lana Del Rey’s internet presence, here’s the new video Blue Jeans, remade from an earlier version which didn’t work so well, so they decided to make it more sexy, because sex sells everything,

Other downsides: it looks like a crappy perfume ad, is a rip-off of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game, and she doesn’t drown in it.
