K’naan, the Somalian-born Hip Hop and Reggae artist, is set to release his second full-length record in May 2012.
Country, God or the Girl promises to be about “the internal wars, rather than the external ones,” though the poet and rapper will continue voicing his concerns regarding worldly affairs.
After getting his start as an activist speaking before the UN, his first album, 2009’s Troubadour, gave him a hit with Wavin’ Flag, helping bring him into the mainstream.
The relative newcomer seems to have no trouble running with the big dogs, joining U2 on stage for Stand by Me in Minneapolis last year and performing at Bill Clinton’s A Decade of Difference 65th birthday party at the Hollywood Bowl alongside Stevie Wonder, Usher and Lady Gaga.
In this vein, guest artists on Country, God or the Girl include Keith Richards, Will.i.am, B.O.B., Nelly Furtado, and, unsurprisingly, on Bulletproof Pride, Bono.
